Tulum: Paradise by the Sea

Image
Paradise by the Sea At the beach Journey The journey here was really easy and simply consisted of flagging a bus down from outside our accommodation in Chichen Itza and then going all the way to Tulum. We hopped off the bus and made our way to the next place we were staying. But we were early, I know right, what is it with these short non-20-hour bus journeys? So we left our bags and went off in search off food, it's what we do best afterall. A turtle we found at our accommodation The place that we ended up going to was at the other end of town and served the most fantastic burritos! Burrito Amor is named after love and we did indeed love the burritos. We had a vegetable burrito and a bean and cheese burrito. What really made it though were the garlic and chipotle sauces that came with all the goodness. The fresh juice is certainly something we'll miss back in England as well. I can see the sea! Tulum is a bit of an odd place as there are effectively th...

Chichen Itza: The Mayan Metropolis

Chichen Itza: The Mayan Metropolis Chichen Itza The Journey So we left Merida in the morning after saying goodbye to yet another dog friend. We've significantly cut down our travel times (like the 20 hour journey to Bogota or what would have been 16 hours if we hadn't flown to Cartagena ). So thankfully we only had about 2 hours on the bus. Our destination was Chichen Itza one of the Seven Wonders of the World and the fourth one we would see on our trip. We have seen the Great Wall in China , Christ the Redeemer and it's stunning view in Rio , Macchu Picchu , the lofty mountain citadel in Peru and now Chichen Itza, the mighty metropolis of the Mayan Empire. Akab Dzib We arrived at the entrance to Chichen Itza and found a taxi to our accommodation about a mile away. We were staying in a place called Dolores Alba which would provide us with transport to explore Chichen Itza the next day. After a surprisingly easy journey we were at our destination and still...

Doing the Can Can in Chan Chan

Image
Can Can in Chan Chan Looks like Cake So we hung around Ica for the day before we left. We were doing one of the awkward overnight busses. The busses here are great, more leg room than planes and quite comfortable seats, the toilets are questionable though... Despite this however the busses are great and make a good way to do long distance travel for a much lower cost. The only problem is the akward hanging around for the day, which is what we're doing today to go to Cuenca . Ica was great though, left our bags at the hostel after our late check out and went and had a really good pizza. We then caught our taxi to the Flores terminal. In order to go to Trujillo we had to go through Lima which has a variety of singular bus company terminals and other busses as well. We knew roughly the area we wanted to get to in order to just cross the road to another terminal towards Trujillo. Flores was the ideal company, but when we arrived we discovered that they actually went to Trujil...
